Quick Assist
Quick Assist provides attended remote support between two people.
since 0.9.8.11
Purpose
Identifier: MicrosoftCorporationII.QuickAssist
By default, Setup Foundry removes the app package from existing user accounts and from provisioning for new accounts.
Quick Assist provides attended remote support between two people. The helper signs in with a Microsoft account or Microsoft Entra ID and generates a time-limited security code. The person receiving help enters that code and must explicitly allow screen sharing. The helper can then view the screen, add annotations, and request control, which requires further consent from the sharer.
The app uses the Remote Desktop Protocol through Microsoft's Remote Assistance Service. Session setup, screen video, and input travel over encrypted HTTPS on port 443. The Windows app requires Microsoft Edge WebView2 for its user interface.
Notes
Additional effects
This package supplies the Quick Assist app. Microsoft Edge WebView2 is a separate runtime and is not removed with this package. Other remote-support products, such as the separate Intune Remote Help app, are not part of the package.
Privacy and security
During a session, screen video is relayed to the helper through an RDP relay service. After control is approved, the helper's input is relayed back to the shared device. Microsoft states that it cannot access the session or see the actions and keystrokes that occur within it.
To monitor service health, Microsoft records a limited set of session information: start and end times, errors, and features used, such as view-only mode, annotation, and session pause. Microsoft says corresponding session logs are not created on either participant's device and that it does not retain data about the sharer or helper for more than three days. The app also contacts Microsoft endpoints for sign-in, required diagnostic data, telemetry, communications, and remote assistance.
After removal, this installation of Quick Assist cannot establish sessions, so its app-specific transfers and session records no longer occur. Removing the package does not delete Microsoft account, Entra ID, or diagnostic data that already exists outside the app.
Effects of the change
Quick Assist is no longer available as an installed app in the affected user accounts. Those users cannot use it to receive help or assist someone else. The app entry and launch surfaces supplied by the package therefore no longer open an installed copy of Quick Assist. Because the package is also removed from provisioning, newly created user accounts do not receive it automatically.
Other Remote Desktop or remote-support applications are not removed. WebView2 also remains because it is a separate, shared component. Microsoft does not document Quick Assist as handling ordinary user file types, so document file associations are not affected.
Quick Assist is offered through the Microsoft Store and can be installed again while it remains available there, provided Store deployment and organizational policies allow it. Both participants must be able to reach the required Microsoft service endpoints before the app can be used again.
Notes
The current Store app applies to Windows 10 and Windows 11. On managed devices, organizational policy can prevent installation from the Microsoft Store.
