Installing Setup Foundry

Install Setup Foundry on the computer used for configuration, not on the computer that will later be reinstalled.

Purpose

This page describes how to install Setup Foundry on the computer you work on. This is not the computer that you will reinstall later.

Availability

The current version of Setup Foundry is available on the download page; during the beta it is open to invited testers.

Steps

Run the installer you downloaded.
Choose whether the installation applies to your user account only or to all users of the computer. Installing for all users requires administrator rights.
Confirm the target folder where Setup Foundry is installed.
Choose whether to create a desktop icon and start the program when the installation is finished.
Continue with the setup wizard.

Result

Setup Foundry is installed and running. The setup wizard is on its first step.

Notes

Set all settings, file storage, security settings, Windows media, and software in the setup wizard, not in the installer.

Setup Foundry uses three folders. The program lives under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\SetupFoundry, or under C:\Program Files\SetupFoundry when installed with administrator rights or from the .msi. Database, settings and licence live under %LOCALAPPDATA%\SetupFoundry. Images and media live in the working folder you choose in the setup wizard; it grows large and may sit on another drive.

During the beta, install every new version yourself as a new installation. Updating an existing beta installation is not available yet.

If it does not work

Windows asks for administrator rights: Choose the installation for your user account only. This currently needs no administrator rights. Individual steps in Setup Foundry need administrator rights later. They are requested when needed.
