Profiles
Create, switch, copy, and delete installation profiles.
Only Pro · since 0.9.8.5
Purpose
A profile is the complete plan for one kind of target PC: Windows source, users, policies, pictures and the other settings a medium is built from. In Pro you create several profiles, for example office workstation, gaming and/or colleague. Changes always apply to the active profile, and the medium is also built with the settings of the active profile.
Older texts call a profile a “variant”; both mean the same thing.
Availability
In Pro you can use several profiles; for this you have the profile row in the sidebar and the Profile management page.
Steps
The top of the sidebar shows the active profile. Use Previous profile and Next profile to switch to the respective profile.
-
Click the profile name (Manage profiles…) in the sidebar to open Profile management.
-
Select a profile in the Available profiles segment.
-
Choose an action:
- Switch: Activate the selected profile.
- New: In Profile, enter the Profile name. Under What would you like to fill the new profile with?, choose Copy Standard profile (default), Copy the current profile, or Start empty, then click Save.
- Copy: Activate the selected profile and open Profile with Copy the current profile selected.
- Rename: In Rename profile, fill in New profile name:.
- Delete: Confirm the profile name under Enter profile name:, then click Delete profile.
Result
A new profile is active as soon as it is saved. It starts with:
- Copy Standard profile / Copy the current profile: the software versions and the package selection of the source profile.
- Start empty: only the empty “Basis” version, no packages.
- Always: the registered user and the company from the “Standard” profile.
Not carried over: administrator name and password, additional accounts, Windows source and edition, policy changes, picture and logo, and the manufacturer. They start from the defaults.
Deleted profiles disappear from the list. This cannot be undone from the app.
Notes
Per profile: Sources including the Windows edition, Windows, Policies, Users (administrator, additional accounts), Pictures & Logo, and in the PC information segment the registered user, company and manufacturer.
Shared by all profiles: Naming, Design, the Support segment and the software versions.
You cannot rename or delete the built-in “Standard” profile.
Note
New profiles have no administrator password. Set one under Users before creating the answer file and media.
If it does not work
- Switch is gray: no profile is selected, or the selected one is already active.
- Rename and Delete are gray: “Standard” is selected, or nothing is.
- “A profile named "…" already exists.”: choose another name.
- “The profile could not be created: …”: the reason follows the colon.
- Administrator password is missing. for a new profile: set an administrator password for this profile on the Users page and save.
- No profile row in the sidebar: Free and Home have exactly one profile.
