Design the Install Assist
Start mode and color scheme of the install card the Install Assist shows on the target computer.
Only Home · Pro · since 0.9.8.5
Purpose
Install Assist starts from the USB stick on the target PC, before Windows Setup begins. After booting you see a card in front of the profile's darkened background image: the measurement line at the top, below it the computer name, the target disk and the button with which you confirm wiping the target disk and start the installation. What it measures and how it prepares the disk is described in Install Assist on the target computer.
On this page you choose whether it starts light or dark, and which of four color schemes it uses for the card.
Availability
Home and Pro. Free has no such page; there, the Install Assist starts dark in the Blue scheme.
The setting applies to the whole application, not per installation profile.
Steps
- In the left rail, section Assist, open Design.
- Start mode: Dark or Light.
- Color scheme: Blue, Green, Orange or Graphite. Move through them with the mouse wheel, the arrow keys or a click on a neighbor.
- Check the result under Preview.
- Save. The status line reports Appearance saved.
Result
Mode and scheme go into install_assist.config.json on the next medium you create; media already created do not change. The Install Assist starts in this mode and scheme and has no switcher of its own.
Notes
- Default: Dark, Blue.
- Preview: drawn from the same color values the Install Assist uses, but stylized. Text appears as bars, and the layout is not pixel-exact.
- Background: behind the card, the Install Assist shows the profile's background picture, evenly darkened, the same in both modes. You set the picture under Background picture and logo, not here.
- Texts of the Install Assist cannot be changed.
If it does not work
- “Could not save the appearance: …” The cause follows the colon.
- The Install Assist shows “This medium's settings could not be read - the defaults apply.”
install_assist.config.jsonon the medium is unreadable or damaged. The Install Assist starts dark in Blue, and the name is typed. Create the medium again.
