Activate a license
Enter a license code so this installation runs as the edition you purchased.
since 0.9.7.6
Purpose
Setup Foundry runs as Free without a license. With a license code, the same installation changes to Home or Pro.
In Free, the menu bar shows the Upgrade button to the left of the edition. It opens the purchase page in your browser. When a license has expired, the button reads Renew and opens the license window.
Steps
- Open License… from the Help menu.
- Enter the license code in the License code field.
- Click Activate. An (i) to the left of the edition says beforehand what this click sends: When you click “Activate”, the Software sends your code, a random installation identifier and the program version to our license server once. It then checks a license you have bought by itself: at every program start for the first 30 days, then no more than once a week and after each program update. It renews a beta license in the background only if you have agreed to contact with the manufacturer.
- Restart Setup Foundry.
A license code has 16 characters in the pattern XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. The earlier pattern XXXX-XXXX with 8 characters remains valid and is accepted indefinitely.
Hyphens, spaces, underscores, and periods are ignored when you enter a code. Paste a code from an email as it appears there.
The letters I, L, O, and U do not occur in license codes. An entered O is read as 0, and I and L as 1. A U is reported.
If you received a license file, paste its contents from the email into the same field.
Result
The edition takes effect the next time you start the program. The message after activation tells you to restart it.
The header of the license window shows the edition, the name the license was issued to, the license number, and the date until which the license is valid. The number of activation seats in use appears once the license server reports it.
Notes
A license is valid for two computers by default. The number of activation seats is part of the license and can differ. Activate the second computer in the same way as the first.
If all activation seats are taken, deactivate the license on another computer or reset the activations on the website, see Reset activations.
Deactivate releases the license on all computers. Setup Foundry asks first and points out that the license can then be activated on another PC. Then activate the license again to continue working on this computer.
Setup Foundry checks a license you have bought even without your consent; without consent, a beta license does not renew in the background.
If a license expires, you have two more weeks to renew it. The license window states the date.
If it does not work
- The code must match the pattern XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX or XXXX-XXXX.: Check the entry. If you have a license file, paste its entire contents.
- “The character … is not allowed in license codes.”: Correct the named character. For example,
Uis not allowed. - A license code can contain up to 16 characters, excluding hyphens.: Shorten the entry to 16 characters.
- “This license code is unknown. Please check the code again.”: Check the code.
- “This license is locked.”: Contact the manufacturer.
- “The subscription for this license has expired.”: Renew the license.
- “All activation slots for this license are in use. Deactivate the license on another computer or reset all activations in your customer account:” with a link: Deactivate the license on one of the computers in use, or follow the link, see Reset activations.
- “This license does not apply to this program version. Please install the matching version or check your license.”: Install the version of Setup Foundry that matches the license or ask the manufacturer.
- “Too many attempts in a short time. Please try again in a few minutes.”: Wait a few minutes.
- “The license server is currently unreachable. Please try again later.”: Try again later.
- “The license server's response was invalid.”: Try again later. If the message remains, report it to the manufacturer.
