Get Help

The Windows Get Help app brings together Microsoft support resources.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Identifier: microsoft.gethelp

Setup Foundry removes this package only when that option is selected; it remains installed by default.

The Windows Get Help app brings together Microsoft support resources. It uses a description of the problem to present relevant support articles, frequently asked questions, and other assistance. Depending on the issue and the account being used, it can also run diagnostic tests or provide access to Microsoft support.

Microsoft delivers many Windows troubleshooters through this app. Available tests can examine system configuration related to audio, Bluetooth, cameras, networking, printers, program compatibility, Windows Update, and other areas.

Notes

Additional effects

Links in Windows Settings and calls from other Windows components can use Get Help as their support and troubleshooting interface. The package also supplies the application that handles corresponding Get Help requests.

Privacy and security

The app processes the problem description entered by the user to find relevant support content. Its diagnostic tests can inspect settings, devices, and other parts of the system configuration; some tests request consent before diagnostics begin.

When a user signs in or submits a support request, information sent to Microsoft can include account information, the affected product, contact details, a telephone number, and a description of the problem, depending on the selected support channel. Any additional diagnostic information processed or transmitted depends on the particular troubleshooter and support case.

Removing the package prevents these app-specific data flows through Get Help. It does not change the operating system’s general Windows diagnostic-data or telemetry settings.

Effects of the change

If removal is selected, Setup Foundry removes Get Help from existing user accounts and from provisioning for new accounts. Get Help no longer appears in the app list or Windows search.

Support content, troubleshooters, and contact options delivered inside the app are then unavailable. Links in Windows Settings or other applications that invoke Get Help can no longer open the intended interface. Depending on the Windows version and the type of request, Windows may instead report that a suitable app is missing or offer to find one in Microsoft Store.

Troubleshooters delivered through Get Help cannot run without the package. This removes the relevant diagnostic interface; it does not itself disable the Windows feature being examined, such as audio, Bluetooth, or Windows Update.

The Microsoft Support website remains accessible in a web browser. The app can be installed again from Microsoft Store if Microsoft continues to offer it there. Get Help does not normally own user-document file associations, so removing it does not delete personal files.
