HKCU\software\policies\microsoft\office\16.0\common\portal\linkpublishingdisabled
This per-user registry value controls whether Office applications poll an Office or SharePoint server for published links.
The value uses the REG_DWORD type. A value of 1 prevents Office from performing the polling operation. With a value of 0, or when the policy value is absent, the Office client can retrieve links published for the user and expose them in supported interfaces for opening and saving documents. SharePoint can target published links to audiences, allowing different locations to be presented according to a user’s audience membership.
The setting does not block access to SharePoint or change SharePoint permissions. Users can still reach content for which they have permission through direct URLs or through other methods that do not depend on the published-links feature.
Notes
Security
Disabling polling prevents Office from automatically retrieving and presenting destinations published by the server. It is not a general network restriction for SharePoint and does not prevent users from opening links supplied manually or through other channels.
Possible side effects
Locations published by the SharePoint server are no longer available as automatically supplied destinations in the affected Office interfaces. This can disrupt workflows in which users rely on the published-links list to open documents from, or save documents directly to, SharePoint libraries.
Notes
This setting applies to the SharePoint Server published-links feature. It does not apply to SharePoint Foundation, where the Published Links Web service is unavailable.
The 16.0 policy branch is also used by supported Windows desktop Office releases other than Office 2016 that are covered by the current Office Administrative Templates.
