ModelCachingLimit
`ModelCachingLimit` is a Windows system task in the Click to Do task folder.
since 0.9.8.11
Purpose
Identifier: \Microsoft\Windows\WindowsAI\ClickToDo\ModelCachingLimit
Setup Foundry disables this scheduled task; the task remains present, but its triggers no longer start it.
ModelCachingLimit is a Windows system task in the Click to Do task folder. Its registered action invokes the Windows model-caching task handler in Limit mode. It is therefore part of the maintenance for locally stored AI models used by Click to Do for analysis and AI-assisted actions.
The task name and action parameter indicate that it enforces a size or occupancy limit for the model cache. Microsoft does not publicly document the task's exact trigger, limit, data-selection rules, or cleanup procedure. In particular, there is no documentation showing that this task processes screenshots or user documents.
Notes
Privacy and security
Click to Do analyzes visible screen content only after the user invokes the feature. Screenshot analysis and intelligent text actions backed by the local language model run on the device. Selected content is sent to an online provider only when the user chooses an online action, such as web search or visual search. Microsoft also states that some diagnostic data is collected to keep the feature secure, current, and operational.
No separate transmission of data to Microsoft is documented for ModelCachingLimit. Disabling the task stops only its scheduled invocation; it does not turn off Click to Do, its diagnostic-data processing, or online actions initiated by the user.
Effects of the change
The task remains registered in Task Scheduler, but its triggers no longer launch the associated Limit maintenance run. This does not directly disable Click to Do, which can continue to analyze screen content and use available local models.
Microsoft does not document this internal task separately, so no particular user-visible result can be stated with certainty. If this maintenance run is solely responsible for enforcing the model-cache limit, obsolete or unneeded model data may remain on disk for longer and consume additional storage. Public documentation does not establish whether Windows also applies the limit during idle maintenance, model updates, or through another mechanism.
Disabling the task does not delete existing models or cached data. It also does not inherently prevent Windows or a requesting feature from downloading, updating, or initializing a model. There is no documented basis for claiming that disabling this task alone causes Click to Do errors or removes any of its actions.
Notes
The task is associated with newer Windows configurations that include Click to Do and may be absent from devices without that feature. Microsoft primarily documents Click to Do for Copilot+ PCs and eligible Cloud PCs, but it does not publish a dedicated reference for ModelCachingLimit. Task details may therefore change with Windows component updates.
