UsageAndQualityInsights-MaintenanceTask

This task is part of the Microsoft Usage and Quality Insights component in Windows.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Identifier: \Microsoft\Windows\UsageAndQualityInsights\UsageAndQualityInsights-MaintenanceTask

Setup Foundry disables this scheduled task while leaving its registered definition in place.

This task is part of the Microsoft Usage and Quality Insights component in Windows. The component derives summarized facts and insights from information about product usage and experience quality. Windows can use those results for automated on-device remediation and optional experiences such as personalized offers.

The task performs the component’s background maintenance when the triggers and conditions in its task definition are satisfied. Microsoft does not currently publish task-specific details about its exact schedule, input signals, or individual maintenance operations.

Notes

Additional effects

The task is separate from the wuqisvc service, whose display name is “Microsoft Usage and Quality Insights.” Disabling the task does not change that service’s startup configuration and does not prevent Windows or another component from requesting the service when needed.

Privacy and security

The task processes usage- and quality-related information on the device. Microsoft’s public documentation does not identify the precise data fields associated with this task or establish that the task itself uploads data to Microsoft. The broader categories in the Windows diagnostic-data documentation therefore cannot all be attributed to this task without further evidence.

Disabling the task stops the processing initiated through this scheduled path. It does not change the Windows diagnostic-data setting or disable other diagnostic components and transmission paths. Consequently, this change should not be described as stopping all diagnostic data sent to Microsoft.

Effects of the change

Task Scheduler no longer starts the task in response to its configured time- or event-based triggers. Its definition is retained, but a disabled task cannot be run normally by Task Scheduler until it is enabled again. Merely disabling it does not necessarily terminate an instance that is already running.

Usage and quality summaries maintained through this task might no longer be created or refreshed. Automated on-device remediation and optional personalized offers that depend on those results could consequently be delayed, less relevant, or unavailable. Microsoft does not document a user-facing feature that depends exclusively on this task, so no specific error message or complete loss of a particular Windows feature can be stated reliably.

The separate wuqisvc service and other diagnostic tasks are unaffected. Microsoft provides no published evidence of a measurable performance or storage improvement from disabling this task alone.

Notes

Microsoft currently provides no public reference dedicated to UsageAndQualityInsights-MaintenanceTask. Its internal processing and dependencies may therefore change with Windows updates.
