Registration
This task is part of the Microsoft Store Push To Install feature.
since 0.9.8.11
Purpose
Identifier: \Microsoft\Windows\PushToInstall\Registration
Setup Foundry disables this scheduled task; the task remains installed, but its triggers no longer start it.
This task is part of the Microsoft Store Push To Install feature. When its trigger fires, it starts the PushToInstall service in registration mode. This allows Windows to register the device, or refresh its registration, for installation requests initiated through Microsoft Store on the web or on another device.
The task does not install apps itself. Remote installation requests are handled by the Store infrastructure, the Windows PushToInstall Service, and other app-deployment components.
Notes
Additional effects
Registration enables the Store infrastructure to recognize the PC as a destination for remote installations. For a personal Microsoft account, this capability also depends on the PC being associated with that account.
Local installations and updates initiated directly in the Microsoft Store app on this PC follow a different path and do not depend solely on this task.
Privacy and security
Registration requires communication with Microsoft Store services and sends the registration information needed to recognize and associate the device. Microsoft does not publish a complete task-specific list of the transmitted fields, so the individual device identifiers processed by this task cannot be stated reliably.
Disabling the task prevents its triggers from initiating registration or registration-renewal activity. It does not erase an existing device registration or Microsoft-account association. It also does not disable the PushToInstall service, which may still be started by another mechanism.
Effects of the change
The task no longer runs automatically and therefore no longer starts the Windows PushToInstall Service for its scheduled registration or registration refresh.
An existing registration may continue to work for some time. When registration must be renewed, however, the PC may no longer be reached reliably as the destination for an app or game pushed from Microsoft Store on the web or from another device. Such a remote installation may not arrive or may be reported as unsuccessful.
This change does not remove Microsoft Store or any installed apps. Direct installations on the PC, the Store library, and normal app updates are not generally disabled by turning off this one task. Other tasks in the PushToInstall folder, including LoginCheck, are not changed.
Notes
Microsoft documents the Push To Install feature and its associated service, but it does not provide a dedicated public reference for the version-dependent triggers of this task. The task's presence and schedule may therefore vary between Windows versions and builds.
