GovernedFeatureUsageProcessing

This task belongs to the internal Windows FeatureConfig subsystem.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Identifier: \Microsoft\Windows\Flighting\FeatureConfig\GovernedFeatureUsageProcessing

Setup Foundry disables this scheduled task; the task remains registered but is no longer started by its triggers.

This task belongs to the internal Windows FeatureConfig subsystem. That subsystem maintains configuration state for Windows features that Microsoft introduces gradually or controls through policy. GovernedFeatureUsageProcessing processes usage information associated with such governed features.

Microsoft does not publicly document the task’s individual triggers or the fields it processes. It is therefore not possible to establish reliably which specific Windows feature consumes its results in a particular operating-system release.

Notes

Privacy and security

The task name indicates that it processes information about the use of governed Windows features. Microsoft does not state which data this particular task handles or whether the task itself sends anything to Microsoft. Local processing by the task should therefore not be treated as evidence of data transmission.

Disabling the task stops the processing initiated by its triggers. It does not disable Windows diagnostic-data collection or transmission as a whole; those activities are controlled by other components and the applicable diagnostic-data settings.

Effects of the change

The task no longer runs automatically. Disabling it does not directly reverse existing feature states or remove installed Windows updates.

The FeatureConfig subsystem can no longer use information that this task would have produced or updated. Depending on the Windows release and the feature configuration assigned to the device, this can affect internal processing related to governed features. Microsoft does not document a particular interface, error message, or individual feature that demonstrably stops working when this task is disabled. No immediate user-visible effect can therefore be stated with confidence.

Other tasks under \Microsoft\Windows\Flighting\FeatureConfig\ and Windows Update itself are not disabled by this individual change and can continue to run.

Notes

Microsoft provides no task-specific public documentation for GovernedFeatureUsageProcessing. Its triggers, dependencies, and behavior can change through cumulative updates and new Windows releases. Windows servicing may also restore the definition or enabled state of a built-in task.
