DmClientOnScenarioDownload
This task is part of Windows System Initiated User Feedback (SIUF).
since 0.9.8.11
Purpose
Identifier: \Microsoft\Windows\Feedback\Siuf\DmClientOnScenarioDownload
Setup Foundry disables this scheduled task; the task remains installed, but its triggers no longer start it.
This task is part of Windows System Initiated User Feedback (SIUF). That feature can display context-dependent notifications asking users to rate their experience or provide feedback about Windows.
When Windows signals that a new feedback-scenario configuration is available, the task starts dmclient.exe to process that configuration. Microsoft supplies dynamic configuration used by SIUF through settings-win.data.microsoft.com and settings.data.microsoft.com. Microsoft's public documentation does not describe the individual triggers and processing steps of this task in detail.
Notes
Privacy and security
The downloaded configuration determines when Windows may present a feedback question. This task is not the same as submitting feedback written by the user. Information is sent as feedback only when a feedback feature is used; depending on the selected feature and diagnostic-data settings, the submission may include user-entered content and associated diagnostic data.
Disabling the task prevents its processing of newly supplied SIUF scenarios. It does not turn off general Windows diagnostic data, Windows Error Reporting, or reports submitted manually through Feedback Hub. It also does not block the configuration endpoints themselves, which are shared with other Windows components.
Effects of the change
Once disabled, DmClientOnScenarioDownload no longer runs when its trigger occurs. Newly downloaded feedback scenarios therefore are not processed through this task. Context-dependent requests to rate Windows or provide feedback may consequently stop appearing or may no longer be updated from newly supplied scenarios.
The separate \Microsoft\Windows\Feedback\Siuf\DmClient task remains unchanged. Disabling DmClientOnScenarioDownload therefore cannot be assumed to suppress every automatic feedback request on every Windows version.
Feedback Hub can still be opened manually and used to submit feedback. The change neither removes the task nor uninstalls the app, and it does not disable general Windows Update, security, or error-reporting functionality.
Notes
Microsoft does not publish a dedicated task reference for DmClientOnScenarioDownload. Its association with SIUF is established by its Windows task path and action together with Microsoft's documentation of dynamic configuration and feedback notifications.
Disabling this individual task is not equivalent to applying the device-wide “Do not show feedback notifications” policy, which explicitly prevents Windows feedback questions from being displayed.
