Documentation

DmClient

This task belongs to the Windows System Initiated User Feedback (SIUF) component.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Identifier: \Microsoft\Windows\Feedback\Siuf\DmClient

Setup Foundry disables this scheduled task; the task remains installed and is no longer launched by its triggers.

This task belongs to the Windows System Initiated User Feedback (SIUF) component. It runs dmclient.exe to refresh strings and dynamic configuration used by that component. Windows can use this material for feedback prompts presented according to the system’s feedback configuration.

During an update, dmclient.exe can connect to settings.data.microsoft.com over HTTPS. Microsoft identifies this endpoint as a source of dynamic configuration for System Initiated User Feedback and other Windows features.

Notes

Privacy and security

The task downloads configuration from a Microsoft endpoint. The cited Microsoft documentation does not specify the complete set of identifiers or other request data transmitted by this particular task.

Disabling it prevents network requests initiated by its scheduled execution. It does not prevent other Windows components from using the same endpoints. In particular, this change does not disable Windows diagnostic-data transmission or feedback that a user deliberately submits through Feedback Hub.

Effects of the change

SIUF strings and the dynamic configuration retrieved by this task are no longer refreshed on its schedule. Previously cached material can remain in use. Depending on the Windows release and the configuration already stored on the device, system-initiated feedback prompts may therefore use outdated content or fail to operate as Microsoft intended.

Disabling this task is not equivalent to applying the Windows policy that suppresses feedback notifications. It consequently does not guarantee that every feedback prompt will disappear. Feedback Hub remains available, and users can still submit feedback themselves.

The task is not deleted. While it remains disabled, Task Scheduler does not launch it from its registered triggers.

Notes

Despite its name, this DmClient task is distinct from scheduled tasks that run the device-management client for an MDM-enrolled device. Its full path under \Microsoft\Windows\Feedback\Siuf\ identifies it as part of System Initiated User Feedback.

Microsoft documents the SIUF-related endpoints for Windows 10 and Windows 11 but does not provide a complete, release-independent description of this individual task’s internal triggers and behavior. Its presence and exact operation can therefore vary between Windows versions.
