Xbox TCUI
Xbox TCUI provides Xbox system interfaces that games and apps can invoke.
since 0.9.8.11
Purpose
Identifier: microsoft.xbox.tcui
Setup Foundry can remove this package; it remains installed by default.
Xbox TCUI provides Xbox system interfaces that games and apps can invoke. “TCUI” means “Title-Callable User Interface.” A compatible game can use these standard interfaces to let players select friends or recent players, send game invitations, view Xbox profiles, or see the synchronization status of connected storage.
The package is primarily a supporting component for Xbox features presented inside other applications, rather than a game in its own right.
Notes
Additional effects
Games using this older Xbox TCUI integration depend on the package for the corresponding system-provided Xbox dialogs. Other Xbox components—including the Xbox app, Xbox Game Bar, Xbox Identity Provider, and Gaming Services—are separate packages and are not automatically removed with microsoft.xbox.tcui.
Newer games may provide comparable interfaces through Gaming Services and the Game Runtime UI App, or through their own custom UI. The effect on an individual game therefore depends on how that game implements Xbox features.
Privacy and security
When an Xbox TCUI function is invoked, Xbox services can process the account and game information needed for that dialog. Depending on the function, this can include the player’s Xbox user ID, profile information, friends or recent players, and details of the game or multiplayer session. If the player confirms an invitation, the selected recipient and session information required to join are sent to Xbox services.
Removing the package prevents it from displaying these dialogs and performing their associated data exchanges. It does not delete Xbox profiles, friends lists, invitations, or cloud saves already held by Microsoft. Other installed Xbox components and games can continue to connect to Xbox services independently.
Effects of the change
Games that rely on microsoft.xbox.tcui can no longer open the affected Xbox system dialogs. Depending on the game, users may encounter effects such as:
- No friend or recent-player picker appearing.
- An inability to send a game invitation through the expected Xbox dialog.
- Missing profile or synchronization displays, or an error from the requesting operation.
- Failure to handle an activation specifically directed to the Xbox TCUI interface registered by this package.
The game itself and offline play remain unaffected unless the game requires this package. Games using a custom interface or the newer Game Runtime UI App delivered through Gaming Services may show no visible change.
Setup Foundry removes the package from existing user accounts and from provisioning for newly created accounts. It does not remove the Xbox app, Xbox Game Bar, or the user’s Xbox account data. The package can be obtained again from Microsoft Store as long as Microsoft continues to offer it for the applicable device and region.
Notes
Microsoft documents the general behavior of title-callable Xbox system interfaces but does not publish a complete end-user reference covering every version of the microsoft.xbox.tcui package. Its observable effects can therefore vary between games and Windows versions.
