Microsoft To Do: Lists, Tasks & Reminders

Microsoft To Do is a personal task-management app.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Identifier: Microsoft.Todos

Setup Foundry removes the app package by default from existing user accounts and from provisioning for new accounts.

Microsoft To Do is a personal task-management app. It manages tasks and lists, including My Day, due dates, reminders, recurrence, importance flags, individual steps, notes, and file attachments.

After sign-in, the app synchronizes its data through the Microsoft Tasks API. Tasks are stored in Exchange, allowing them to appear in Outlook, in To Do on other supported devices, and on the web. To Do can also present flagged Outlook messages as tasks when that feature is enabled.

Notes

Additional effects

Microsoft To Do and Outlook use the same Exchange-backed task collection. Removing the Windows app package does not disable this server-side integration: tasks can remain accessible through Outlook, the To Do web app, and To Do clients on other devices.

Privacy and security

When used with a Microsoft account or a work or school account, the app sends task and list data to Microsoft for storage and synchronization. This data can include task titles, due dates, reminders, recurrence settings, notes, steps, and uploaded files. If the Flagged Email list is enabled, To Do also processes the message subject and a preview of its text. Microsoft states that To Do data is stored on Exchange servers and encrypted both in transit and at rest.

Once the package has been removed, the Windows app can no longer synchronize data or generate its notifications. Tasks and attachments already synchronized with Exchange are not deleted from the Microsoft account or mailbox by removing the app. Other To Do and Outlook clients can continue to access this information and exchange data with Microsoft.

Effects of the change

The standalone Microsoft To Do app is no longer available in the affected Windows user accounts. Users cannot launch it from Start, and its interface, smart lists, local reminder notifications, and synchronization on that PC are no longer available.

Removing the package does not erase the Exchange-hosted task collection. Users can continue to view and edit synchronized tasks in Outlook, in the To Do web app, or on another device. Local changes that the Windows app had not yet synchronized with Exchange might no longer be available after removal.

Because the package is also removed from provisioning, Windows does not automatically install it for newly created user accounts. Other Outlook features and the To Do experience integrated into Outlook are not uninstalled. The Windows app can be installed again from Microsoft Store while Microsoft continues to offer it there.
