Power Automate

This package provides the Microsoft Store version of Power Automate for desktop.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Identifier: Microsoft.PowerAutomateDesktop

Setup Foundry removes the app package from existing user accounts and from provisioning for new accounts.

This package provides the Microsoft Store version of Power Automate for desktop. The app is used to build, edit, and run desktop flows that automate repetitive operations in Windows applications and on websites.

Power Automate can perform configured actions directly or record mouse and keyboard activity and turn it into a flow. Depending on its design, a flow may read, transfer, or modify information in forms, files, websites, Excel workbooks, and other desktop applications.

Microsoft makes Power Automate for desktop available with Windows 11 as a preinstalled app or as an app downloaded when it is first selected. The Store version is identified as “Power Automate” in the installed-app list.

Notes

Additional effects

The Store package doesn't include the separate machine-runtime app used to connect a computer to the Power Automate cloud and make it available to cloud flows. Removing Microsoft.PowerAutomateDesktop does not by itself uninstall a separately installed machine runtime.

Privacy and security

The user data handled by Power Automate depends on the desktop flow. A flow can access local files, applications, websites, and information displayed or entered in them, and it can transfer data between those destinations. These operations are determined by the actions configured in the flow; they don't occur merely because the package is installed.

The Power Automate client sends required diagnostic data to Microsoft. This can include device and configuration details, performance measurements, feature-usage information, errors, and aggregated information about flow runs and service interactions. Microsoft states that this diagnostic data doesn't contain the user's name or email address, file contents, or information about apps unrelated to Power Automate. Optional diagnostic data is collected only after consent and can include information such as the names of processes being automated, for example EXCEL.exe.

Once removed, this Store installation can no longer run desktop flows or generate further usage and diagnostic events while doing so. Removing the local package does not automatically erase information already stored in Microsoft cloud services or previously transmitted to Microsoft. A separately installed machine runtime or other Power Automate components remain independent of this package.

Effects of the change

Power Automate is no longer available as a local app to the affected user accounts. Its app entry and launch target are removed, so shortcuts that point to the package can no longer open it. Microsoft does not document this Store package as a general handler for common Windows file types.

Unless another Power Automate desktop client is installed, users can no longer create, edit, record, or locally run desktop flows on the device. Automations that depend on this installation therefore stop running or fail when invoked. Applications, files, and websites previously controlled by those flows are not themselves removed or modified.

Removing the package from provisioning also prevents it from being installed automatically for newly created user accounts. Power Automate can be installed again from Microsoft Store if Microsoft continues to offer it there. Reinstalling the app does not necessarily restore local settings or data that was removed separately.

Notes

The features available after installing Power Automate also depend on the account and license in use. The entitlement included with Windows 11 covers only certain attended desktop-flow scenarios for personal productivity.
