Outlook for Windows
This package contains the new Outlook for Windows.
since 0.9.8.11
Purpose
Identifier: Microsoft.OutlookForWindows
Setup Foundry removes the app package by default from existing user accounts and from provisioning for new accounts.
This package contains the new Outlook for Windows. The app brings email, calendars, and contacts together for supported Microsoft accounts, work or school accounts, and accounts from other providers. It synchronizes messages, events, and contact information with the applicable email service and provides features such as search, notifications, meeting scheduling, and online-meeting integration.
Outlook for Windows is preinstalled with newer Windows releases and is Microsoft's successor to the former Windows Mail and Calendar apps. Its package is separate from classic Outlook, which is installed with certain Microsoft 365 and Office products.
Notes
Privacy and security
The app processes credentials and account information for configured accounts, together with their messages, attachments, calendar information, and contacts. The destination and extent of data transfers depend on the account provider and the Outlook features in use.
For supported Gmail and Yahoo accounts, Microsoft states that new Outlook synchronizes a copy of email, calendar, and contact data with the Microsoft Cloud. Connected experiences may also process content when providing their respective cloud-backed features. Optional diagnostic data is controlled separately in Outlook's privacy settings.
After removal, the installed Outlook app no longer processes or synchronizes data on this device. Removing the package does not delete the underlying email account or its server-side mailbox, calendar, and contact data. Uninstalling the client package also is not documented as deleting account data already held in the Microsoft Cloud.
Effects of the change
Outlook for Windows can no longer be launched after the package is removed. Email, calendar, contacts, reminders, and desktop notifications are no longer available through this app. The accounts and their server-side contents remain accessible through a web browser, another mail client, or classic Outlook when that separate application is installed and supports the account.
If Outlook for Windows was assigned as the default handler for email links, calendar links, or supported file types such as .eml, those items can no longer be passed to this installation. Whether another application opens them automatically or Windows asks the user to select an app depends on the remaining default-app associations.
Package removal deregisters the app and its user-specific integrations. On some Windows installations, a placeholder or system-managed Outlook entry may nevertheless remain visible in Start. Microsoft notes that selecting such a placeholder can install the app again.
Because Setup Foundry also removes the provisioned package, Outlook for Windows is not automatically registered for user accounts created later. Classic Outlook and other email or calendar applications are not removed. Outlook for Windows can be installed again from Microsoft Store while Microsoft continues to offer it there.
Notes
Microsoft.OutlookForWindows is the package identity of the new Outlook app; its full Package Family Name is Microsoft.OutlookForWindows_8wekyb3d8bbwe.
Microsoft documents preinstallation with Windows 11 version 23H2 and later, as well as automatic deployment through specified Windows 10 updates released in 2025. On supported Windows builds, Microsoft states that Windows Update does not reinstall the app after its provisioned package has been properly removed.
