This package provides the Windows app that Microsoft formerly offered as “Office” and “Microsoft 365 (Office),” and later as “Microsoft 365 Copilot.” Microsoft calls its current version the Microsoft Copilot app.
since 0.9.8.11
Purpose
Identifier: Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub
Setup Foundry removes the app package for existing user accounts by default and removes it from provisioning for new accounts.
This package provides the Windows app that Microsoft formerly offered as “Office” and “Microsoft 365 (Office),” and later as “Microsoft 365 Copilot.” Microsoft calls its current version the Microsoft Copilot app. Microsoft explicitly associates the application ID Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub_8wekyb3d8bbwe!Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub with this app.
The app acts as a central entry point for Microsoft 365 and Copilot. Depending on the signed-in account and assigned license, it can provide Copilot Chat, content search, file upload and creation, and access to Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Available features differ between personal Microsoft accounts and work or school accounts.
Notes
Additional effects
If a keyboard's Copilot key is assigned to this app, that assignment targets the application ID supplied by the package. Start menu or taskbar shortcuts can also point to the app.
The package is separate from independently installed Microsoft 365 desktop programs. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams are not components of this Appx package.
Privacy and security
When a user signs in, the app processes account and licensing information and connects to the Microsoft 365 services available to that account. Using Copilot or another online feature sends the entered prompts and any content the user explicitly uploads or selects to Microsoft for processing. Depending on the account, the app can also access Microsoft 365 content for which the signed-in user has permission.
Microsoft separates the personal Microsoft-account experience from the Microsoft Entra work or school experience within the app. The applicable privacy and data-protection terms depend on the account, license, and feature being used.
After removal, this local package can no longer process or transmit data. Removing it does not delete the Microsoft account, stored files, chat history, or other cloud data. The same online services can still be used through a browser, other Microsoft apps, or another Copilot installation.
Effects of the change
The app disappears from the affected user accounts and is no longer automatically installed from Windows provisioning for newly created accounts. Its central entry point for Copilot Chat, Search, Library, agents, file creation, and launching other Microsoft 365 apps is no longer available.
A shortcut pinned to this package might be removed or stop working. If the Copilot key is explicitly assigned to this package's application ID, it can no longer launch the removed app.
Separately installed desktop programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams are not removed. Existing documents and files stored in Microsoft 365 or OneDrive remain intact. Access to the web versions of Microsoft 365 and Copilot is not blocked.
The app can be installed again from Microsoft Store while Microsoft continues to offer it there. A later deployment by Windows, Microsoft 365 Apps, or device-management software can also add the package again.
Notes
The package name has remained unchanged through several product renamings. Depending on the installed version, Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub can therefore appear as Office, Microsoft 365 (Office), Microsoft 365 Copilot, or Microsoft Copilot. Removal applies to the package with this technical identifier, not to a separately installed Copilot app with a different package identity.
