MSN Weather
MSN Weather displays current conditions and hourly, daily, and extended forecasts for selected locations.
since 0.9.8.11
Purpose
Identifier: microsoft.bingweather
Setup Foundry removes the app package by default from existing user accounts and from provisioning for new accounts.
MSN Weather displays current conditions and hourly, daily, and extended forecasts for selected locations. It also provides weather maps and information such as precipitation, wind, humidity, and air quality.
For location-based forecasts, the app uses either a place entered by the user or, when location permission has been granted, the device location supplied by the Windows location service. When the user signs in with a Microsoft account, personalized content such as saved locations can be synchronized through MSN services across devices and browsers.
Notes
Privacy and security
The app sends location information to Microsoft services to retrieve the corresponding weather data. This information can consist of locations entered in searches or, if access is permitted, the device’s location. When a Microsoft account is used, personalized settings can also be associated with the account and synchronized.
After removal, this app package can no longer access the device location or make its own weather, search, or synchronization requests. Removing the local package does not automatically delete information already stored by Microsoft or synchronized with the Microsoft account. Other apps, the MSN website, and the Windows location service are not removed or disabled by this change.
Effects of the change
MSN Weather is no longer available as an installed app in existing user accounts. Its Start menu entry is removed, and users can no longer access its forecasts, weather maps, saved locations, or other personalized views through the app. Shortcuts that point directly to the removed app can no longer open it.
Because the package is also removed from Windows provisioning, accounts created later do not receive the app automatically. Other sources of weather information, such as the MSN website or weather features supplied by other Windows components and apps, are not inherently disabled.
The app can be installed again from Microsoft Store while Microsoft continues to offer it there. Signing in again with the same Microsoft account may restore personalized content that was synchronized on the server; app data stored only on the device cannot be assumed to remain available after removal.
Notes
microsoft.bingweather identifies the package documented by Microsoft as Microsoft.BingWeather. Its current Microsoft Store display name is “MSN Weather.”
