Purpose
Identifier: Clipchamp.Clipchamp
Setup Foundry removes this package by default from existing user accounts and from provisioning for new accounts.
Microsoft Clipchamp is the video editor included with Windows 11 and is also available for Windows 10. It combines and trims video, image, and audio assets and can add text, transitions, filters, effects, and stock content. The editor also provides screen, camera, and microphone recording and can export completed videos.
The Windows app is built on web technologies. It uses Microsoft sign-in and opens the Clipchamp experience associated with the selected personal, work, or school account. Major editing operations—including previews and video exports—are performed locally on the device.
Notes
Additional effects
Microsoft Photos can hand videos off to Clipchamp for editing. Opening Clipchamp as a Windows application through this integration depends on the installed package.
Depending on the account type and Clipchamp version, project information and media can be stored in OneDrive or SharePoint. Clipchamp's browser-based editor offers substantially the same editing experience and remains available in a supported browser independently of the Windows package.
Privacy and security
The desktop app stores system files and temporary copies of project video, image, and audio assets in its local application-data directory. Clipchamp generally processes these assets locally during editing. Its recording features access the screen, camera, or microphone only after the relevant permission has been granted.
Clipchamp for personal accounts is integrated with OneDrive and can store projects and their media there. For work and school accounts, project files and media are backed up to the organization's OneDrive or SharePoint environment by default. Other transfers can occur when cloud storage, stock content, sharing features, or an explicitly requested upload to Microsoft support is used.
After removal, the installed package can no longer process media, use recording devices, or communicate with Clipchamp services. Removing it does not delete information already held in OneDrive, SharePoint, or another online service. Using the Clipchamp web application later will still produce the local storage and network traffic associated with that web application.
Effects of the change
Clipchamp is no longer available as an installed Windows app. Its Start menu entry and package-registered shortcuts or file associations are removed. Features in other Windows apps that attempt to open the installed Clipchamp application can no longer launch the desktop editor.
Uninstalling an app package also removes its associated on-disk application data. For Clipchamp, this can include the application cache and temporary copies of media assets. Source files and exported videos stored outside the app-data directory, along with projects held in OneDrive or SharePoint, are not part of the installed package and are not deleted by its removal. Information that exists only inside the local app-data area is no longer available afterward.
The browser version of Clipchamp remains usable in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. The package can be installed again from Microsoft Store if Microsoft continues to offer it there. Because Setup Foundry also removes the package from provisioning, newly created user accounts do not receive the app automatically.
