These application-specific registry values control the Internet Explorer FEATURE_SECURITYBAND feature for each named executable. The feature displays the Internet Explorer Information Bar when a file download or code installation has been restricted by another security setting.

The values are interpreted as REG_DWORD switches. A value of 1 enables the Information Bar for the corresponding process, while 0 disables it. The setting applies only when the process handles web content through Internet Explorer or WebBrowser Control technology.

Notes

Security

The Information Bar informs users that security-sensitive content has been blocked or restricted. If the bar is disabled, this notification is absent, and users might interpret the blocked operation as an unexplained application or content failure.

This setting does not perform the underlying security enforcement. It neither blocks downloads or code installation by itself nor overrides existing restrictions. Hiding the Information Bar therefore does not grant additional execution rights to the affected content; it removes only the associated notification.

Possible side effects

With the Information Bar disabled, embedded web functionality can appear to fail without explanation when another security mechanism prevents a download or code installation. When it is enabled, applications can display additional Internet Explorer notifications within their hosted web views.

Notes

Each value name is evaluated independently and applies only to the correspondingly named process. The setting is not a general policy for every Office application or for modern browsers.

Microsoft's published Office baseline lists onent.exe, not onenote.exe, for the corresponding Office 2016 template entry. A value named onenote.exe is technically a separate process-specific feature-control value and must not be assumed to be identical to the onent.exe value used by the official Office template.

The similarly structured policy path under HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\... belongs to a separate Internet Explorer policy. Its scope must not automatically be attributed to the Office-related values documented here under the key that does not contain Policies.
