Purpose
Show registry keys (1)
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Dsh\AllowNewsAndInterests
This machine-scoped policy value determines whether the Windows 11 widgets feature is allowed on the device.
A value of 0 does not allow widgets. A value of 1 allows widgets and is the policy default documented by Microsoft. When widgets are allowed, individual users can still turn the feature off in their Windows settings.
Notes
Additional effects
The setting applies to the entire widgets experience, including content presented on the taskbar. It does not merely control the visibility of a single taskbar icon.
Possible side effects
When widgets are not allowed, the customizable news and feeds service is unavailable. Microsoft notes that apps which depend on this service might stop working as a result.
Notes
This is a device-scoped setting rather than a per-user policy.
