This registry value controls whether Internet Explorer loads XAML files from websites in the Internet zone. XAML is an XML-based markup language used, among other purposes, to define Windows Presentation Foundation user interfaces and graphics.
The value uses the REG_DWORD data type. Its supported data corresponds to Internet Explorer URL policy actions:
0: XAML files are loaded without prompting the user.1: The user is prompted before a XAML file is loaded.3: XAML files are not loaded.
The HKLM path represents the computer policy, while the HKCU path represents the user policy.
Notes
Security
A value of 0 allows Internet-zone content to invoke Internet Explorer's XAML processing without prior user confirmation. This exposes an additional browser processing feature to untrusted Internet content. A value of 1 places a user decision before loading, while 3 prevents the content from loading.
This setting changes only the URL action associated with loading XAML files. It does not grant administrative privileges or general file access, and it does not override other security-zone controls or Windows permissions.
Possible side effects
A value of 3 can prevent legacy websites and applications from working when they depend on XAML content loaded inside Internet Explorer. A value of 1 can introduce additional security prompts and interrupt automated or unattended workflows.
Notes
Zone number 3 identifies the Internet zone. The setting therefore does not automatically apply to content assigned to another security zone.
This policy controls XAML loading inside Internet Explorer. It is not a system-wide Windows or WPF setting for XAML files opened by standalone applications. The Internet Explorer 11 desktop application is unsupported or disabled on certain Windows versions, so this setting is primarily relevant to remaining legacy environments based on Internet Explorer technology.
