Prevent clients from querying the index remotely
This value controls whether other computers can remotely query the Windows Search index maintained on this computer.
since 0.9.8.11
Purpose
Show registry keys (1)
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search\PreventRemoteQueries
This value controls whether other computers can remotely query the Windows Search index maintained on this computer.
A value of 1 blocks remote index queries. Consequently, clients searching network shares hosted on this computer cannot use its index for those searches. A value of 0 allows client search requests to use this computer's index.
Notes
Possible side effects
When remote queries are blocked, searches of affected network shares cannot benefit from the index maintained on this computer. Depending on the client and the share being searched, searches may therefore be slower or behave differently.
Notes
This is a computer-wide setting that affects incoming remote queries of the local search index. It does not disable local indexing, access to network shares, or access to their contents.
For the corresponding Windows policy, 1 represents the enabled state—remote queries are prevented—whereas 0 represents the disabled state—remote queries may use the index.
