Do not show AutoRepublish warning alert

This user policy controls whether Excel displays an alert before automatically republishing a workbook.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Show registry keys (1)
  • HKCU\software\policies\microsoft\office\16.0\excel\options\disableautorepublishwarning

This user policy controls whether Excel displays an alert before automatically republishing a workbook.

When the disableautorepublishwarning value is set to 1 as a REG_DWORD, Excel suppresses the alert. For workbooks with AutoRepublish enabled, the designated content continues to be published to its previously configured webpage or other destination whenever the workbook is saved.

When the value is 0, Excel displays the alert. The message informs the user about the pending republication and provides choices for retaining AutoRepublish or disabling it temporarily or permanently for the affected workbook.

This setting controls only the alert. It neither enables nor disables the AutoRepublish feature itself.

Notes

Security

Suppressing the alert removes the visible notification that saving the workbook also writes data to its configured publication destination. Consequently, modified, confidential, or otherwise unintended content can be republished without the user noticing.

This is particularly relevant when the destination is a shared network folder, web server, or publicly accessible location. A workbook obtained from an untrusted source can also contain publication destinations to which Excel writes using the signed-in user's permissions.

The policy does not grant additional access rights. Republishing can occur only when AutoRepublish has already been configured for workbook content and the user has sufficient access to write to the destination.

Possible side effects

Without the alert, the user has no immediate opportunity during a save operation to suspend AutoRepublish for the current session. The setting does not resolve destination errors or other separate warnings.

The published webpage can differ technically from the source workbook. For example, external references may appear on the webpage as their last retrieved values, and hidden formulas may become visible. Webpage formats also do not fully support certain calculation and date options. These differences result from publishing to a webpage rather than from suppressing the alert, but the absence of the alert can make them less noticeable.

Notes

The setting applies to the current user and to all Excel workbooks opened by that user. It has an effect only on workbooks or published items for which AutoRepublish is enabled.

If the policy value is absent, the policy is not configured. Independently of this policy, Excel can store a user choice such as “Do not show this message again.”
