This per-user Excel policy controls the AutoRepublish feature. AutoRepublish can write previously published workbook content to a static Web page again whenever the workbook is saved.
The value uses the REG_DWORD type. A value of 1 disables AutoRepublish, so previously published content must be republished manually. With a value of 0, or when the policy value is absent, users can enable AutoRepublish.
The policy applies to Web formats such as .htm, .html, .mht, and .mhtml. It does not prevent the Excel workbook itself from being saved normally.
Notes
Security
Disabling AutoRepublish prevents workbook changes from being sent automatically to a previously selected Web destination merely because the workbook is saved. This reduces the risk that confidential data added later will be exposed unintentionally through an accessible or public Web page.
The policy does not change access permissions on the publication destination and does not prevent users from publishing content manually. It therefore provides no general protection against exporting or sharing workbook data.
Possible side effects
Static Web pages that previously received updates whenever a workbook was saved will no longer be updated automatically. Their published data can become stale unless the content is republished manually.
Notes
The Office\16.0 policy branch is used not only by Office 2016 but also by several later Office desktop releases and Microsoft 365 Apps.
The similarly named disableautorepublishwarning value controls the warning shown before automatic republication. It is a separate setting and does not have the same effect as disableautorepublish.
