HKU\.DEFAULT\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Privacy\TailoredExperiencesWithDiagnosticDataEnabled
This registry value is associated with the per-user Windows setting for tailored experiences. A DWORD value of 0 marks the feature as off. Windows should then refrain from using diagnostic data to personalize tips, advertisements, recommendations, and offers for the affected user context.
The setting restricts one use of available diagnostic data. It does not reduce the configured Windows diagnostic-data level or stop diagnostic data from being collected or transmitted.
Notes
Security
Turning the feature off reduces the use of device, usage, and diagnostic information for personalized content. Other Windows settings and policies continue to determine which diagnostic data is collected.
The specified location under HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT substantially limits this effect. .DEFAULT is a separate registry hive backed by the system’s Default file. It is neither the hive of an ordinarily signed-in user nor the NTUSER.DAT template used for the Windows default user profile. Consequently, this value does not automatically disable tailored experiences for existing or newly created user accounts.
Possible side effects
Where Windows observes the value in this user context, tips, recommendations, and offers may still appear. They are not personalized from the diagnostic data covered by this setting and may therefore be less relevant.
Notes
This registry value is not a Group Policy setting. The official Do not use diagnostic data for tailored experiences policy instead uses Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CloudContent\DisableTailoredExperiencesWithDiagnosticData. Policy properties, including enforcement against user changes, do not automatically apply to the value documented here.
Microsoft is replacing Tailored experiences with Personalized offers in newer Windows releases. Microsoft does not document the older registry value at the specified HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT location as controlling the newer setting.
