The SubscribedContent-338387Enabled DWORD value is a per-user Windows Content Delivery Manager setting. A value of 0 is associated with disabling additional Microsoft content on the lock screen, particularly fun facts, tips, and related suggestions.
This value does not disable every Windows spotlight feature. In particular, it does not reliably disable the rotating spotlight background, suggestions elsewhere in the Windows user interface, or all subscribed cloud content by itself. Windows uses other settings and policies for those experiences.
Notes
Possible side effects
Additional information and links to suggested content might no longer appear on the lock screen. Windows spotlight can continue to supply or rotate the lock-screen background independently of this setting.
Notes
Microsoft documents the lock-screen option and the general behavior of Windows spotlight, but it does not publish an authoritative mapping for the internal SubscribedContent-338387Enabled value. Its behavior can therefore vary between Windows versions and builds. The value is not equivalent to a documented Group Policy setting.
The specified path is under HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT. This registry hive is not the same as the new-user profile template stored in C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT. Consequently, the entry does not automatically affect existing user profiles; Windows stores the corresponding settings for those users in their individual registry hives.
