Dynamic Code Settings

A value of `1` (`EnabledForBrowser`) prevents the Microsoft Edge browser process from creating dynamic code.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Show registry keys (1)
  • HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\DynamicCodeSettings

A value of 1 (EnabledForBrowser) prevents the Microsoft Edge browser process from creating dynamic code. The registry value uses the REG_DWORD type.

The restriction specifically applies to the browser process. It is not a general setting for disabling JavaScript or all dynamic code across every Edge process.

Notes

Security

Preventing dynamic code generation makes it more difficult for potentially hostile dynamic code and third-party code running inside the browser process to alter Microsoft Edge behavior. This reduces an attack opportunity within that process, but it does not replace other security controls or generally prevent the browser from executing web content.

Possible side effects

Third-party software that needs to run code in the browser process may become incompatible or lose functionality. Microsoft identifies certain printer drivers as one possible example.

Notes

The policy is supported on Windows starting with Microsoft Edge version 128. It is not profile-specific and can also apply to profiles signed in with a Microsoft account.

Dynamic policy refresh is not supported, so a browser restart is required before a change takes effect.
