Show suggestions occasionally in Start

This registry value stores a per-user preference for suggestions presented by the Windows shell.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Show registry keys (1)
  • HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager\SystemPaneSuggestionsEnabled

This registry value stores a per-user preference for suggestions presented by the Windows shell. In Windows 10, it is associated with the “Show suggestions occasionally in Start” setting. Setting the REG_DWORD value to 0 suppresses the app and content suggestions governed by this preference in Start or other affected system panes.

It does not disable installed apps, ordinary Start entries, or Windows notifications in general.

Notes

Possible side effects

The user no longer sees app or Windows feature suggestions on the affected surfaces. This can make such apps or features less discoverable, but it does not disable their underlying functionality.

Notes

Because the value is stored under HKCU, it applies only to the corresponding user profile.

This is a preference value, not a Group Policy setting. It does not lock the related user interface or turn off every recommendation and tip in Windows. Suggestions in the Settings app, the Windows welcome experience, notification tips, and newer Windows 11 Start recommendations are controlled partly by separate settings.

Microsoft includes SystemPaneSuggestionsEnabled with data 0 in its VDI optimization reference, but does not provide a standalone technical reference defining every affected surface or supported Windows build. On newer Windows 11 versions, the value may therefore have limited or no visible effect.
