Show me suggested content in the Settings app

This value belongs to the Windows Content Delivery Manager.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Show registry keys (1)
  • HKU\.DEFAULT\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager\SubscribedContent-353694Enabled

This value belongs to the Windows Content Delivery Manager. Setting the DWORD to 0 disables the content subscription identified as 353694, which is associated with suggested content in the Settings app. This content can introduce Windows features or recommend apps and other potentially relevant offerings.

Microsoft documents the broader user-facing setting but does not publish an authoritative mapping for each numbered SubscribedContent value. It therefore cannot be established that SubscribedContent-353694Enabled by itself disables every suggested app or item of suggested content. Windows versions may use additional subscription values for this experience.

Notes

Possible side effects

When Windows evaluates this value for the relevant subscription, the associated recommendations and feature-discovery messages no longer appear in Settings. Users may consequently miss information about new or unused Windows features and apps. This single value is not documented as disabling all other recommendations, Windows tips, or personalized offers.

Notes

This is an internal registry preference, not a documented Group Policy setting. Microsoft provides neither a separate official display name for subscription 353694 nor a stable applicability statement covering all Windows releases.

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT is also not the signed-in user's registry hive and is not automatically the template for newly created user profiles. Signed-in user preferences reside under HKEY_CURRENT_USER. The new-profile template is stored in C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT and must be loaded separately. Writing the stated path literally under HKU\.DEFAULT therefore does not modify existing user profiles or, by itself, the template used for new users. An observable user-facing effect depends on whether the deployment product maps this path to another loaded profile hive.
