Start_IrisRecommendations is a per-user Windows 11 setting that controls recommendations in the Start menu. Its data type is REG_DWORD. A value of 0 disables recommendations for tips, shortcuts, new apps, and similar content; a value of 1 enables them.
This setting is not a general advertising control. It suppresses only the category of Start recommendations governed by this value. Other recommended content, such as recently used files or the entire Recommended section, is controlled by separate settings.
Notes
Notes
Microsoft documents this value under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced, where it applies to the profile of the signed-in user.
The specified HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT path does not represent the Windows default user profile from which new user profiles are created. The .DEFAULT hive belongs to the system account. Consequently, placing the value there does not automatically change the Start setting for standard or newly created users. If the path is used literally, the intended effect for interactive users is not assured.
