Disable reinstallation of preinstalled apps

Setup Foundry writes `0` to this per-user `DWORD` value.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Show registry keys (1)
  • HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager\PreInstalledAppsEverEnabled

Setup Foundry writes 0 to this per-user DWORD value. The value is part of the Windows Content Delivery Manager's internal state and is intended to prevent preinstalled or consumer-experience apps from being enabled or installed again for the current user.

Microsoft does not document PreInstalledAppsEverEnabled as a supported policy and does not define its precise evaluation logic or supported value data. Official sources therefore do not establish that this value alone prevents the reinstallation of preinstalled apps across supported Windows versions.

Notes

Notes

This value is not a documented Group Policy setting and is not stored under a Policies key. It applies only to the user profile represented by the HKCU hive in which it is stored.

Setting the value to 0 does not remove installed app packages or cancel system-wide provisioning. Windows provisions preinstalled packaged apps at the device level and subsequently registers them for individual users. Reprovisioning, force provisioning, and other installation mechanisms can therefore operate independently of this value.

The documented Turn off Microsoft consumer experiences policy uses a different registry value: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CloudContent\DisableWindowsConsumerFeatures. Its documented behavior must not be attributed to PreInstalledAppsEverEnabled.
