Disable rotating lock screen

This per-user DWORD value controls the rotating Windows spotlight imagery on the lock screen.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Show registry keys (1)
  • HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager\RotatingLockScreenEnabled

This per-user DWORD value controls the rotating Windows spotlight imagery on the lock screen. Value data 0 disables the automatic rotation of these lock screen images for the affected user.

The value does not necessarily select a particular replacement image. Windows may instead display an existing cached image, a user-selected image, or an image specified by another setting.

Notes

Possible side effects

New Windows spotlight images no longer appear automatically on the lock screen. This individual value is not documented as disabling every other type of dynamic content, such as tips, additional lock screen content, or widgets; Windows uses separate settings for those features.

Notes

This value is outside the policy registry branches and is not a documented ADMX policy value. In particular, it is distinct from the Configure Windows spotlight on lock screen Group Policy setting. That policy uses the separate HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CloudContent\ConfigureWindowsSpotlight value and can also restrict the user's available lock screen choices.

Microsoft does not publish a formal registry reference for RotatingLockScreenEnabled. Microsoft documentation does confirm that Windows spotlight supplies rotating Microsoft images, while Microsoft support information uses a value of 1 when checking whether that functionality is enabled. Because this is an internal per-user state value, Windows can change it again when personalization settings are modified or another management mechanism applies a configuration.
