Disable preinstalled consumer apps

The `PreInstalledAppsEnabled` DWORD value controls automatic downloading of preinstalled content by Windows Content Delivery Manager for the current user.

since 0.9.8.11

Purpose

Show registry keys (1)
  • HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager\PreInstalledAppsEnabled

The PreInstalledAppsEnabled DWORD value controls automatic downloading of preinstalled content by Windows Content Delivery Manager for the current user. A value of 0 disables this automatic content download.

This setting does not remove apps or app packages that are already installed. It also does not disable Microsoft Store or automatic updates for Store apps in general.

Notes

Possible side effects

Apps or content that Windows would otherwise deliver through Content Delivery Manager for the affected user might not be downloaded automatically and therefore might not become available as intended.

Notes

This is a per-user registry value, not a documented mapping of the “Turn off Microsoft consumer experiences” Group Policy setting. Other Content Delivery Manager features are controlled by separate registry or policy values. Microsoft does not document a complete list of the apps or content affected by this individual value.
